University Mathematics: The Experiences of Four Mature Age Students

The lives and experiences of four mature age students are discussed in this paper. The students di ered in their educational backgrounds, family commitments, and personal motivations for embarking on their tertiary courses. Each was enrolled in a mathematics course during their rst year of tertiary study. For various reasons, only two had persisted with mathematics into the second year of their university studies.
